Location


The Republic of Bulgaria is situated in South east Europe with a coastline of 378 km to the Black Sea. The bordering countries are Greece - 494 km, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – 148 km, Romania - 608 km, Serbia - 318 km and Turkey - 240 km. The total land area of Bulgaria is 110,993 sq km.

Relief


The country is very beautiful during all seasons with its very varied relief, forests, mountains, rivers and lakes. With altitudes from 0 to 2,925 metres above sea level. The average altitude of the country is 470 m above sea level. Approximately 30% of Bulgaria is mountainous the highest being Rila, with the highest peak on the Balkan Peninsula – Musala 2925 metres above sea level.

Climate


Winter temperatures vary between 0 and -7 degrees on the coast and as low as -20 degrees further inland. During the spring the climate is continental. Summers are hot. The summer temperatures are about 28 degrees. Autumns are mild and very colourful, its quite magical to see.
 

Natural Resources


Bulgaria has an abundance of natural resources, the most obvious coming from farming, with such arable land crops such as Wheat, Sunflower, Rape, lavender and Grapes are grown in abundance for the home market and abroad. Resources such as copper, lead, zinc, coal and timber are also exported around the world.

Geographical  Network


Bulgaria is set in a key location near the Turkish Straits and can control many land routes from Europe to the Middle East and Asia, thus making the country an ideal place for large foreign investors to set up factories and outlets for their business.
